David Pollard has been president of Chicago Newspaper Guild (CNG) for the past year and Unit Chair for Pioneer Press for two years. He currently works as a staff writer for Pioneer Press, a part of Sun-Times Media, and has worked for the company for a combined 12 years primarily covering communities in the western suburbs of Cook County. His career in Journalism has spanned over 20 years starting at Northern Illinois University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Journalism. While in college he realized he wanted to become a reporter while working for the college’s student newspaper, The Northern Star. His introduction to Chicago Newspaper Guild started at the Pioneer Press, when they were in contract negotiations with the owners. During that time he experienced firsthand the importance of unions and the strong impact a union has on worker rights, a productive workplace and a sense of family. Since that time he hasn’t looked back in terms of his involvement in union activity and CNG. As guild president his top priority is to work to make sure all of the members of CNG are represented well and that we move forward to make sure that presence in each unit is recognized and respected for the hard work the members do.
