Bob Okon

Bob Okon is unit chair for the Guild at The Herald-News in Joliet.

He has been unit chair since 2001 in Joliet, where he started working in 1990. He had also served as unit chair and in other Guild positions before 2001, having participated in contract negotiations with previous Herald-News ownership, Hollinger Inc. and Copley Inc.

Bob is a reporter covering Joliet city government and other topics. Over the years he has covered various beats for the newspaper and was business editor when The Herald-News had a business section. Before coming to The Herald-News, Bob was a reporter for the Daily Southtown, which was then named the Southtown Economist, for seven years. He previously was reporter and editor for the Iroquois County Times-Republic in Watseka.

A Joliet-area native, Bob, 54, lives just outside the city limits. He is married with a son in college and a daughter in eighth grade. He is a graduate of Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill.
